Work stool

Still going strong

A lucky survivor of a termite attack, this stool is still going strong after many years of loyal service.

During Dr. Schweitzer’s lifetime, it was used as an office chair in his bedroom in Lambaréné. When Dr. Schweitzer died, he brought it back to Europe, where it was treated with dynamic anoxia to eliminate the infestation that was eating away at it.

Now, as part of the permanent exhibition at the Gunsbach Museum, it helps to tell the story of another era.
